SPOA Members’ Beliefs
This list does not represent an attempt to be complete or coherent, but is simply an aggregation of statements that we agreed on unanimously in 2007. Therefore, this list should give you an idea about what common ideas and attitudes you will find in this group:
- Oil production peaked between 2005-2007.
- Economic problems will happen due to Peak Oil.
- Economic collapse is likely in the current system at some time.
- Our civilization is unsustainable.
- Trying to keep the cars going at all costs is a bad idea.
- Displacing land from food production to fuel production is a bad idea.
- Mass scale biofuels are a bad idea.
- We need to change our lifestyle.
- Mass transit over auto infrastructure is preferred.
- Localized sustainable agriculture is essential.
- Sea, rail, road, air is the order to focus on transportation. Sea being the most efficient.
- Invest in renewable productive capacity now, since it’s the cheapest its ever going to be.
