Monthly Meeting

Friday, January 9th, 2009

Come to the February 5th meeting and find out what the group has been up to, or better yet, join in one of our ongoing projects. Also, time to start planning your garden if you haven’t already!

This Month, Alexis Ziegler will be doing a presentation for us. Alexis runs a site called “Conscious Cultural Evolution” (at http://www.conev.org). He has written a couple of books, the most recent of which is called “Culture Change: Civil Liberty, Peak Oil, and the End of Empire”. Many of you may remember his guest post on the oil drum this past spring, titled Biofuels and the Rise of Nationalistic Environmentalism.

Trip details

The boat, Soliton, and its crew (Fulvio Casali, Alex Tokar, and Dave Reid) will sail to Sequim, visiting for the first time three organic farms that are interested in sail-transporting organic produce. The entire trip will be sailed engineless, so absolutely no fossil fuel will be used (besides the embedded energy in the boats and other materials.)

We will donate any unclaimed produce to The Ballard Food Bank.

Monthly Meeting

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Due to the New Year’s holiday, we’ll meet on January 8th this month to ring in the new year and perhaps do some goal setting “resolutions” of our own.

Unless another special or timely opportunity comes up, Robert will be doing a presentation exploring the benefits and costs of Biofuels as a response to the energy predicament.

See you there.

Tea & Discussion Group

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

We’re having another discussion group this coming Sunday at 1 p.m. at a great Chinese restaurant in the International District called Tai Tung. The address is 659 S. King St. The atmosphere of this place is great, and they let you hang around sipping tea for hours, even after you’re done with your meal—which is why it’s great for discussions, study groups, or whatever. (Todd and I sat and talked there late into the night one day after a previous coffee shop discussion group.) I hope to see a great turnout!
