Free Movie Screening: Good Food

Thursday, June 11th, 2009
June 18, 2009
6:30 pmto8:30 pm

Free screening of this award-winning movie about living more sustainably in our own part of the world.

Pizza will be served! Location: Edmonds Christian Church, 23010 84th Ave W, Edmonds, WA 98020.

From the movie’s website:

“Something remarkable is happening in the fields and orchards of the Pacific Northwest. Small family farmers are making a comeback. They’re growing much healthier food, and lots more food per acre, while using less energy and water than factory farms.

For decades Northwest agriculture was focused on a few big crops for export. But to respond to climate change and the end of cheap energy, each region needs to produce more of its own food and to grow food more sustainably.

Good Food visits producers, farmers’ markets, distributors, stores, restaurants and public officials who are developing a more sustainable food system for all. Something remarkable is happening in the fields and orchards of the Pacific Northwest. Small family farmers are making a comeback. They’re growing much healthier food, and lots more food per acre, while using less energy and water than factory farms.”

Second Community Garden Work Party

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009
March 14, 2009
9:30 amto3:00 pm
9:30 amto3:00 pm

Our February 21st Work Party was a success, due mostly to the hard work of our volunteers who contributed their efforts. Four members of SPOA joined six members of Edmonds Christian Church and we now have three garden plots ready for planting, and we have ground broken for about 4 more plots, as well as frames constructed for 2 more plots. We also enjoyed a delicious lunch provided by the ECC Women’s Fellowship. One plot has already been claimed, and we are pleased to be making this step towards increasing local food production.

Our next work party opportunity will be on March 14th at 9:30 AM until about 3:00 PM. Lunch will again be provided.

Directions:

If traveling by public transit, the church is served by Community Transit Route 118 which originates at the Aurora Village Transit Center. Metro Transit serves Aurora Village with Routes 331, 346, and 358.

Monthly Meeting

Monday, February 9th, 2009
March 5, 2009
7:00 pmto9:30 pm

Join us March 5th for our regular monthly meeting.

Edmund has been researching small-scale communications technology and will be doing a presentation about what he has found, with some possible show & tell time.

Todd will also share some food storage systems he has been working with and has offered to organize a bulk purchase for people who are interested. This seems especially timely given the major problems we may have with food this next year.
